Sharliza Jelita covers Uji Rashid's golden track, 'Ku Ingin Selalu Disampingmu'

Now you have a solid reason to drag your moms and pops to hangout at our site instead of having them whining and wondering from the corner what is it on the net that have been stealing your whole attention. Yup, you got it right people, it’s THAT ‘Ku Ingin Selalu Disampingmu’, that golden hit by Uji Rashid back in the year of 1975. But only this time, it’s not by the madam herself.

Slightly astray from her usual eccentric pop style, the Singaporean Sharliza Jelita unveils her latest project in producing a set of sleek, stripped-back covers of songs that used to be popular in the 1920s-1990s. Donning a 1960s red tailor-made kebaya and embracing the Saloma style in the video, ‘Ku Ingin Selalu Disampingmu’ is obviously one of the bits in her project. Apart from it amplifies her deep-toned vocals, this version of the tune sounds more of retro bossa and vintage than the original one, making it sounds like it’s performed in one of those P. Ramlee films back in the 60s.

Here it comes with English subtitles, listen to Sharliza Jelita – ‘Ku Ingin Selalu Disampingmu’.

‘Tam Tam Buku’ is the first single taken from White Shoes & The Couples Company’s upcoming mini album entitled ‘White Shoes & The Couples Company Menyanyikan Lagu2 Daerah’, which is set to release on 20th May this year (well, it’s today!). With 5 tracks in it, the band is taking us on a stroll down the childhood memories with the reworking of Indonesian folk songs infused with their retro pop flavor.

The delay-filled lead guitar protrudes throughout the flow of the track accompanied with vintage vibes and fine vocals of the guys and girls alternately, making everything sounds very sleek and catchy. Catchy tune with psychedelic flavor, that’s the way it is to describe it in precise. This song might sounds familiar to your ears as it is also called ‘Trang Trang Kolantrang’ in Sundanese (native language from West Java) and ‘Chock Chock Kundong’ in Malaysia, apart from being known as it is now which is in Betawi dialect (native language from Jakarta).

So now, buckle up, hit the play button below and enjoice!

Listen a couple of tracks by this 4 piece shoegaze / post punk outfit from Surabaya

When you stumbled upon this title up here, it may seems like we’re trying to give you a geographical lesson on a district somewhere in England. Well, no. It’s actually Indonesia revealing another one of their hidden acts to everyone and it’s called, well, Cotswolds. This new comer originated from Surabaya is empowering the fuzzy deep reverbs, which seems apparent as showcased in their EP.

The 4-piece shoegaze Cotswolds is made up of Windrata Faizal (vocal & guitar), Farras Fauzi (drum), Dwiki Putra (guitar) and Wing Wisesa (bass). Start off with an intro track which is snippets of the last track in the EP, ‘Plasticity’. It’s got that lo-fi vibe in it that somehow enlightens the obscure gloom within. Backed with cuts of post-punk beats in it, ‘European Ocean’ makes your mind wander around an imaginary ocean and feeding your mind with flashing images of life. ‘Fire’ is another track that deserves much attention from the listeners (simply because it’s my favorite track) as the riffs and reverbs just structured the whole piece and keep the intensity escalating in the track.

To sum it all up, this is very much worthy to listen to and now, just press that play button down here and take it for a spin!

Listen to Sapporo Safari's (SG) brand of indie-pop / rock through their 4-track EP, Figures of Eight

Their early journey as Sapporo Safaris might not be a smooth-sailing one for the diversified music backgrounds and styles that stood between them, especially when they are 8 of them. Nonetheless, it seems obligatory for them to be up for the challenge and they managed to put it into good use.

Melodious horns, grand sounds, catchy riffs and cuts of electro ambience are the ingredients of this little family from Singapore, whom just released their 4-track EP early of this year entitled ‘Figure of Eight’. The EP start off mellow and easy with ‘An Island In You’, hooking you up with its melancholy sentiment. Upbeat and catchy, ‘Electric Handshakes’ is the track to dance to, backed with the glorious sounds of the horns and instantly giving you a breath of energy. Kicked off with slow ambient and bits of dream pop, ‘Ancient Becoming’ is the third track of the EP that abruptly goes bouncy and lively halfway through (so, do not skip this track). ‘Oxygen Man I’ finishes off the EP, just like the first track, very melancholic and flashing more of grace in the vocals. The ending is just something to love, sounding grand through well harmonization of each instrumentation.

For a new band that indeed sounds promising, we just wish that sooner or later they will manage to get an identity or signature sound that they could get a grasp on. All in all, this EP is worth the note. Check this one out by Sapporo Safaris.

Listen to 'Ancient Weapons' a new track by one of Singapore's finest rock quartets, This Is Atlantis.

After releasing their split and touring alongside Daighila, the journey didn’t just end there for This Is Atlantis. Though currently they’re still working their heads and fingers off for the upcoming release and rocking some shows on as of late, instilling some decent amount of anticipation amongst fans or avid listeners with a track simply wouldn’t do any harm. Hence the flare of ‘Ancient Weapons’, one of the tracks in their upcoming EP.

The track kicks off with an easygoing line which then keeps on going catchy and head-swirling along the way with the flaunt of post-punk waves in it, making you go antsy of what’s gonna emerge next. We couldn’t wait to listen for more from them. Therefore, in the mean time, take a listen to “Ancient Weapons” by This Is Atlantis.
