The Drives - Parkinson

With 5 EPs under their belt, The Drives have gone through several lineup changes since their inception in 2003. Originating from Kuching, Sarawak, the band’s brand of indie doesn’t stray away far from their influences (New Order,The Stone Roses etc), and are currently in the studio recording their 6th EP which is due to be released sometime this year.

Have a listen to their latest track, ‘Parkinson’.

  • Blackunicornday

Nang penauk segala dunia kau tok… Keyboard warrior….I bet in real life you’re just a pussy….What have you contributed to the scene other than being an ass?

  • Gandalfthegreat

memang jealous pok…scene kuching tok paloi gilak. yalah mauk proof a point. sebab scene kuching tok paloi gilak, terpaksa nya pergi semenanjung hehehhehe….anyway nama screen ko ya bapuk gilak.Melodic artistry?nampak gilak yuppie and mbiak clubbing. Dah gik, pergi la kawu dari scene tok.

  • Gandalfthegreat

We in the scene all know they were libretto and telebury before they become love/comes…we all know. We all know how they are.
I think your knowledge of the kuching scene is so shallow that when you spew shit like theyve been around for sometimes…it makes me wanna puke.
Go check your backyard ass…and spend time in the Kuching scene then you will know how shitty it is.
Too many scenesters look highly on themselves that they starting to act as if we owe them a living.FUCK that and FUCK YOU!

  • Melodic_artistry

    Jealous…

Seeing all the hatred in kch scene is a sad, sad thing…what a shame…talented bunch of musician but there are barriers dividing them..am just glad & proud to see some kch band made it to the top, regardless of their genres of music…support our music scene guys..cheersssss :)

  • Evilscenesters

Jealousy kills, what a good screen name.
But the idea of support the scene and the scene alone is full of shit.
    1) Yes we can play better guitar than you. Does this matters?
    2) Our drummers are double pedals users. Does this matters?
    3) I dont dig your music. Does this matters?

    Item 3: YES-It does matters.

It matters alot that being full of hate is a way to express myself in this site.
It matters alot that the scene is made of people like me and you.
It matters alot that people get to understand the scene and how it works.
It matters alot if you are a spectators not a victim of shitty scenesters like you.
It matters alot that people like you-YUPPIES, the one who talk like he is God here is the one who unwilling to pay gigs other than supporting YUPPIES alone.
It matters…and the list goes on and on….

There is more than just this site, this scene that you fail to understand at a grass root level.

It is more than just this.
Try to be in the scene and try to be a person who sees the music not by its genre.
Try to look at the youth playing the music and the youth who celebrates broken things.

Look harder and you will see what its all about.

ART IS HARDER THAN YOU THINK IT IS.

With this I qoute a lyrics from Cursive-ART IS HARD

Cut it out – your self-inflicted painis getting too routinethe crowds are catching on – to the self-inflicted songWell, here we go again – the art of acting weakFall in love to fail – to boost your CD salesAnd that CD sells – yeah, what a hitYou’ve got to repeat ityou gotta’ sink to swimIf at first you don’t succeedyou gotta recreate your misery’cause we all know art is hardyoung artists have gotta starveTry, and fail, and try againthe comforts of repetitionKeep churning out those hits’til it’s all the same old shitOh, a second verse!Well, color me fatiguedI’m hiding in the leavesin the CD jacket sleevestired of entertainingsome double-dipped meaninga soft serve analogyThis drunken angry slurin thirty-one flavorsYou gotta’ sink to swimimmerse yourself in rejectionregurgitate some sorry taleabout a boy who sells his love affairsYou gotta’ fake the painyou better make it stingyou’re gonna’ break a legwhen you get on stageand they scream your name”Oh, Cursive is so cool!”You gotta sink to swimimpersonate greater persons’cause we all know art is hardwhen we don’t know who we are

There is something in kuching scene that need more than just shoegaze, indie, and wtf.
There is more than just a scene in kuching that need to be featured in the-wknd.
But the thing is what is a scene?what is worth to be featured here to represent your music-to represent your songs.
On a personal level all the kuching band that is featured here are either going there where the pool of hate is.
The pool that brings us together in the scene..to be hated.
A scene made of hate mongers, fame mongers, rockstars and etc.
Who give a shit about one pathethic Kuching band like Love/comes that got featured here.
Seriously you ask any people in the scene, within the scene…you know who they are.
A BUNCH OF FUCKING ROCKSTARS. Their EGO is so big in Kuching that they cant see how shitty the way they pull strings to be in shows and etc.
Are they working hard for their music? Hell shit no man..come on la, 3 years one EP? FUCK that shit man!!!
Are they sincere working for their scene?Hell shit man..they just want themselves to be featured.
Infact if there is more than one platform like The-wknd, they will be all around it.
Everyone and everybody is for themselves out there.
There is no scene..We have immatured wannabes out there who refuse to grow up and play music.
There are more pressing issue out there then just your shitty meaningless music.
As for the drives keep up the good work.
For a band that is made out of fathers and working people to still be real in the scene is a hard gem.
As for Reynold Ahvit and his team-this is a personal one.
STOP THE ROCKSTAR FACADE AND ONCE FOR ALL BE REAL.
P/s- I bought your EP and it wasted 3 minutes of my life. Isnt it sad??

  • Pussypower

Then we should have other people interviewing him???

  • Emily

Hi, I am a troll named emily.
I am not hating the drives, i just want the drives to reach the maximum comment of 100s..oh yeah lick that clits!

  • JealousyKills

Emily is a troll..dont listen to her/him..keep up the good job guys..shame on you emily..you’re just another 1 of those haters out there trolling around here..instead of hoping & wishing for the Wknd to feature your band (assuming you have 1), why dont you just submit your stuff to the Wknd & maybe your band will be featured too..plain simple..its all about the effort..instead of trolling around with all those hate in you, why dont do something with more benefits eg:- produce your own music & submit to the Wknd…you are just too damn lazy to do that coz you are too busy hating others (jealous, perhaps?)…i bet my money that you are just jealous of these lads for being featured in the Wknd…to The Drives, good job on your part…just keep on producing your own stuff..ignore all those haters out there..they’re just a pile of rubbish jealous of other’s success & wished that they’re the 1 being success but minus all the effort, hardwork & perseverance…support local scene my ass..for you haters its more like “support my scene & my scene only..not other scene coz they’re lame & we’re friggin cool & we can play lead guitar better & our drummer use double pedal etc”..music is universal my friend..there is no such thing as good music or bad music..music is music wherever you go

  • HAI

  • wakdepak

what the paxxx r u talking about? lol

  • Kuchkuchhotahai

wouldnt it be funny if Ali Jo interviewed himself if KC played ahaiahaiahaiahai

  • Kuchrebel

One thing that I cant stand about kch band is that the vocals are really bad.
comparing to KL bands, the vocals are very distinct and clear. However it is hard to stomach a good song, with good melodies with bad vocals. Kch scene is too indie in such way, no variety and what is displayed in the-wknd is all very one sided kind of genre. Kuch-Indie, KL-punk/post core…the list goes on and on..Really looking for a harder band to be in this site. When the fuck KC will be in the WKND??!!!!!!

  • Fcker

Yeah!!!This is the sound were looking for, here in KL we get too many posers trying to be metal core, pussy core and so many shitty bands to list!!!

  • Fred Armisen

interesting! Kuching’s got some really cool bands. there could really be a great scene there!

  • thedrivescool

    awesome sound!!!

  • Emily

Sial band tok endah kena feature sitok?!!!
ciney band thornwire records langsung sikda di feature rah the-wknd?!!Kimak nar juak..nang kronie tok!
