Ska and reggae fans rejoice for many of the old and growing names of the local ska/reggae scene will be playing at the Skankin Festival 2016 on the 24th of December. A Cartel Production endeavour, the festival will be bigger in scale following last month’s prelude show and will take place at KL Live.

Festival goers are to expect a wholesome 12 band line-up that will play varying tempos and present their own twists to the recognisable reggae and ska sound. The festival will feature 12 bands, with the highlights undoubtedly names such as Gerhana Ska Cinta, back from a nine-year hiatus; Johny Comes Lately, who released an album earlier this year; and the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) award-winning Salammusik. Other bands on the bill are Purevibracion, Republic of Brickfields, Plague of Happiness, Sharpshooter, Skudap Skudip, Wakakukz, Rosewood, Mbex Firdaus and The Souljah, and Budak Nakal Hujung Simpang.

Skankin Festival 2016 will be the introductory concert for a planned concert tour that will make its way all across Malaysia, Singapore and even Indonesia next year. Cartel Production also intends to release a compilation of reggae and ska bands on the back of Skankin Festival 2016.
