Some days, you just want to push your musical taste to the limit. Jakarta-based trio, Vague (Yudhistira – vocals/guitars, Gary – bass & Januar Kristianto – drums) is a rising band that managed to stay grounded and accurately placed themselves on the line between post hardcore and hardcore punk. They bring their choice cuts of noise and punk to the foreground. Their latest single, ‘Inadequate’ taken off their full-length album ‘Footsteps’ due later this year through Sonic Funeral Records (CD) and Ruang Kecil Records (Tapes), exemplify their capability to write new material that’s in keeping with the whole style and moniker of their influences like Fugazi, Rites of Spring, Husker Du, The Wipers, Dinosaur Jr and others in between.
Knocking it straight out through this single, there’s a strong sense that it is this band’s deep immersion in their influences that gives them the reassurance to creatively add all the styles together. ‘Inadequate’ has enough flair to entice listeners who are into this genre and energize your musical mind. The vocals are gritty and sharp and you can feel the searing guitars and volatile drums pulsating; and the words unwrap like constant chants of liberation. They definitely set the standard for hardcore-punk scene and we have a feeling this upcoming album ‘Footsteps’ would add flavor to their music catalog.
