One to not pass on jetsetting and performing to new audiences, White Shoes & The Couples Company is heading to the city of Chennai, the “Cultural Capital of South India”, this coming 13th of January 2013. The Jakarta based sextet comprising of bassist Ricky, vocalist Sari, guitarists Saleh and Rio, keyboardist, Mela along with drummer John are scheduled to perform there this week at Saarang 2013, an annual cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai.
Highly influenced by Indonesian movie scores from the 1970s, 1930’s jazz and 60’s pop music, WSATCC will also be releasing their yet to be named EP this coming April 2013, a follow up to their sophomore, ‘Album Vakansi’.
By the way, there seems to be a growing interest in new music in metropolitan cities in India, with shows hosted in cities like Chennai, mostly by the guys at ‘Live From The Console’, among others, with their latest show featuring Julian Marley (the son of the legend himself). One thing for sure though, with WSATCC’s brand of music, they are bound to receive new fans, and not end up like garage rockers Black Lips (US) when they were there in 2009.
