Thai trap/vaporwave (vaportrap?) producer Potted Plant has been plying his trade since 2018, releasing a string of short albums and EPs on Bandcamp. Windows to a Neverland That Never Was (Part I), which was released at the tail end of February, is his biggest statement yet.
Windows to a Neverland That Never Was (Part I) is an album of nostalgic callbacks to early post-Y2K internet culture. Potted Plant calls it “exploration of growing up with Windows XP, the older internet, childhood crushes and cat image macros.”
Those of you already wasting your lives on the internet back then might remember names like InstallShield Wizard and Insaniquarium Deluxe, both of which Potted Plant references on Windows. It’s a perfect information-overload combination of an imagined gaudy Windows XP-era aesthetic with trap, boom-bap, gabber, and vaporware production styles.
Windows to a Neverland That Never Was (Part I) features guest spots from a wide range of artists and collaborators. Names include UK “weird electronic” producer Glitchgirl, self-styled “amycore” artist BOWELROT, and phonk producer nobody!
